During the winter, the Color Guard transitions to Winter Guard, performing indoor shows to recorded music. The Milford Winter Guard program has grown from 17 students to over 50 students in the Open, “A”, and Junior High groups. The program provides performance opportunities for Milford students in grades 7-12.
Open Winter Guard
Our Scholastic Open Winter Guard primarily consists of upperclassmen or those with extensive color guard experience. The group competes in the Tri-State Marching Arts circuit, the MidEast Performance Association, and at regional and national events organized by Winter Guard International (WGI). The Open Guard has been a WGI World Championship finalist every year since 2016. In 2011 the group was the WGI Scholastic “A” Bronze medalists. Auditions are held in late November for students that are part of the fall Color Guard. The season runs through early April. Practices are generally held evenings and weekends.
“A” Winter Guard
The “A” Winter Guard consists of newer color guard students. The group competes at local competitions in the Tri-State Marching Arts circuit and the MidEast Performance Association. Auditions are held in late November. The season runs through late March/early April. Practices are generally held after school and weekends.
Junior High Winter Guard
The Junior High Winter Guard consists of students in grades 7 and 8. This group trains and prepares students to transition to the high school color guard. The group performs at local competitions in the Tri-State Marching Arts circuit. Practices begin in early December. The season runs through late March.
