The Milford Junior High School bands consist of the grades 7-8 bands, which meet separately throughout the school year. There are three directors working with both groups at all times. This allows for an abundance of sectionals and individual work, and permits the percussion section to work separately from the winds.
Individual seating tests occur twice per school year, and each band performs three concerts per school year. The Milford Junior High School Concert Band annually performs in Class A or B at the OMEA Large Group Contest, and has consistently received superior ratings. In 2002, 2005, and 2010 the Milford Junior High School Concert Band was honored to perform at the Ohio Music Education Association Professional Conferences.
Students are strongly encouraged to participate in the private lesson program. Milford Junior High School band members also actively participate at the OMEA District XIV Solo and Ensemble Contest and the OMEA District XIV Honor Band and Orchestra.
Junior Cincinnati Youth Wind Ensemble
The Junior Cincinnati Youth Wind Ensemble is for musicians in grades 6-8 from the Cincinnati tri-state area. Members are selected by audition each September. The group rehearses at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music on Sunday evenings, and they perform concerts in December and April.
OMEA District 14 Honor Band & Orchestra
The Ohio Music Education Association District XIV Honor Band is an ensemble comprised of students selected by audition from the Hamilton and Clermont County areas. Hundreds of students audition annually for the 84-piece ensemble. The Milford Junior High School Band has a long history of several students selected to participate each year.
