Change in the Season
|
With the MidStates Band Association and Bands of America canceling their competitive seasons, the Milford Marching Band has transitioned into a noncompetitive season. Dr. Dailey provided further details in his posts on the Marching Band Facebook group page:
|
|
|
"While competition has been an exciting motivational tool for us in the past, it is not the reason why we do what we do. Making music, connecting with art, and performing for others are valuable endeavors and we are committed to creating these opportunities for students in as many ways as we are able over the months ahead. Band is an important educational and social outlet for kids and we will continue to make that happen this fall even if we have to approach it differently than in previous years.
...While this is new territory for all of us, it does present an opportunity to be creative with how we provide social and artistic outlets for students. This season we will be splitting the Woodwinds, Brass, Percussion, and Color Guard and each section will be working on their own indoor performance projects that will still teach all of the skills that would normally be taught in a competitive season with a full outdoor show. At the end of the season, we will be scheduling multiple community performances so that the students can showcase their projects for as many people as possible."

|
Click here to access the updated schedule for the season. With the shift to a noncompetitive season, Marching Band fees managed by Band Boosters have decreased to $150 per student. Families who previously paid fees in full will receive refunds. We expect to issue these during the week of August 3.

Band Camp -- Week 2
|
Our veteran marchers will be joining the new marchers this week as we roll into Week 2 of Band Camp! Despite the change in the season, Band Camp will be continuing as planned previously. Full section ensembles will be gathering this week, as our veteran marchers join the new marchers. Just a reminder that instruments have assigned times starting this week:
|
- Woodwinds 8am-12pm
- Brass 12:30-4:30pm
- Color Guard 5-9pm
- Percussion 5:30-9pm
- In order to be admitted to rehearsal, students need to have a mask, full water jug, instrument/equipment, and a bucket (brass only).
- Students should arrive 15 minutes early and have transportation ready on time at the conclusion of rehearsal.
- Students are expected to maintain 6 ft of social distancing at all times.
- Please click on the attached photos for an idea of what to expect upon check-in.

It may be a noncompetitive season, but that doesn't mean we need to stop showing our Milford Band spirit! The 2020 Spirit Wear Store is open for business at https://stores.inksoft.com/milfordband2020. Long- and short-sleeved tees, hoodies, hats, and polos, as well as stickers, clings, magnets and yard signs in your choice of design (Guard, Percussion, or Marching)!

Milford Band receives a portion of all sales. The sale ends at midnight on Sunday Aug 9--get your order in today! Special thanks to Apparel Decor in Milford for partnering with us on this year's sale. Questions? Contact Lisa Jacobsen ([email protected]).
