Weekly Newsletter #23 | November 11, 2019

This Week in MBB

The big week is finally here! The Marching Eagles will travel to Indianapolis this week for the Bands of America Grand Nationals. This week's newsletter contains details about events leading up to the weekend, as well as agendas and information for Indianapolis.

Indy Posters and Senior Speeches - November 12

Join the Boosters in the MHS cafeteria on Tuesday 11/12 between 3-5pm to hang your Indy poster(s). The Boosters will provide binder clips and tape. If you can't hang it yourself, please make arrangements to have someone hang it for you, or drop it off at the MHS Office during the school day with a label for "Band Boosters". Remember that these are a surprise for first-time marchers...please keep them a secret!

Immediately after rehearsal on 11/12, the Band will assemble in the Band Room for speeches from the seniors. Tuesday's rehearsal has been extended to 6pm to allow time for the speeches (the calendar has been updated to reflect this).

Seniors: Because of the large number of students who will be speaking, please make sure you are planning a speech of 2 minutes or less.

BOA Grand Nationals - November 14
On Thursday 11/14, the Marching Eagles will make an early departure from MHS, headed for Prelims at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis. They will return to Milford after their Prelims performance.
  • Students should eat breakfast before arriving, and report to the Band Room by 6:30am on Thursday morning.
  • Buses will depart MHS at 7:15am.
  • The Band will perform in Prelims at 1:15pm.
  • Buses will return to MHS around 6pm.
Immediately after school on Friday 11/15, the Band will return to Indianapolis for the Prelims Awards and the announcement of semifinalists. The Band will remain in Indianapolis through Finals on Saturday night, and will return to Milford on Sunday morning. Specific details of the trip are available in the itinerary (download here).

Additional Notes for BOA

In preparation for the trip to Indianapolis trip, please make note of the following. Please also review the band itinerary (available here) for additional notes.
  • Students who require prescription or non-prescription medication during the Indianapolis trip need to provide it to Dr. Dailey by Friday morning (along with the appropriate form(s)). Forms and additional information are available at
  • Students should pack a cinch sack for the bus to carry any items needed on Thursday or Friday. No backpacks will be allowed on the buses.
  • Luggage for the weekend should be dropped off to the Band Room before school on Friday. Luggage will be loaded and transported directly to the hotel in Indianapolis. It will not be available to the students until they check into the hotel that night (after the awards ceremony).
  • All Band members should plan for the following attire:
    • Thursday: Depart MHS wearing black under-uniform attire.
    • Friday: Dress in show shirts and band jackets.
    • Saturday: Dress in polos and band jackets.
    • The band clothing must be visible on the OUTSIDE of your person. For example, if you think you may need to remove your band jacket, you will need appropriate band attire underneath. NO other sweaters or jackets are permitted as outerwear. This is for identification and safety purposes.
    • We will be walking around outside. Please plan accordingly and watch the weather forecast.
  • The Boosters chaperones will be assigned to groups of Band members for the weekend.
  • Students should bring money for souvenirs, food, and possible shopping at the Circle Center Mall. Please use proper judgement regarding the amount of money brought on the trip. Students are responsible for any personal items or cash brought with them.

Percussive Arts Society Convention

If the Band does not make BOA Semifinals, Mr. Dittgen is planning an opportunity for students to attend the Percussive Arts Society Convention (taking place onsite during BOA Grand Nationals). This opportunity will be available to any student enrolled in percussion class, or involved in Marching Band percussion or last year‘s Winter Drumline. Students will attend the convention at member cost ($25, purchased onsite). If you are interested or have questions, please contact Mr. Dittgen (
